Learn It

Start with the simple version, then practice it with real signs.

CL:5 uses an open hand with all five fingers spread. It often shows many things or something spread out.

Wiggling or moving the fingers can show a crowd moving, wind blowing, waves rolling, smoke rising, or water spreading.

The face and movement help show whether the action is gentle, strong, fast, or overwhelming.

Try It

Practice slowly. Make the classifier movement clear and keep the location steady.

  1. Sign PEOPLE MANY, then wiggle CL:5 to show a crowd moving.
  2. Sign WIND, then sweep both CL:5 hands sideways to show wind blowing.
  3. Sign WATER, then move CL:5 outward to show water spreading.

Deeper Note

A little more grammar

CL:5 can show quantity and motion at the same time. The handshape gives the idea of many or spread-out, while the movement shows what the group or element is doing.
